10 Ways to Build a Memorable Reputation
Your personal brand and reputation are what distinguish you from other professionals in your sector. However, it takes time and effort to build a positive reputation that sticks.
Once you have it though, it opens the door to new jobs, promotions, growth, and profits.
Whether you’ve just started building your personal brand or you want to strengthen what you’ve created to date, here are some tips to get you started.
How to Create a More Memorable Reputation 1. Work on Your Character
Your character plays a leading role in building a memorable reputation. When you have a strong character, you have values that you don’t compromise on and you’re honest. Doing the right thing even when it’s difficult shows that you have integrity and can be trusted.
2. Pay Attention to Your Body Language
You are always speaking to others, even when you’re not using words. Maintaining eye contact, actively listening to others, and being mindful of your body language can make you more memorable.
3. Humanize Your Brand
If you want your reputation and personal brand to be more memorable, make it authentic. Be mindful of the words you use and how you communicate with others, both on and offline. People want to connect with you and your story, so don’t be shy to tell it.
4. Create a Strong Online Presence
If someone had to search for you online, what would they find? If you haven’t done so in a while, audit your online presence across all platforms. Are you conveying the same message across all sites? Is your imagery professional and up to date? The stronger your online presence, the more potential customers and employers will take you seriously.
5. Be Transparent
Full disclosure is always best. A customer, employer, or investor finding out that you’ve lied about something or only told a half-truth can destroy your reputation instantly. Honesty and transparency build trust and credibility.
6. Do What You Said You Would
Want people to remember and recommend you? Keep your promises. If you said you would review a project or get back to a potential customer by a certain date, do so. To get into the habit of keeping your professional promises, start making a point of keeping every personal promise too, no matter how small.
7. Help Where You Can
Helping others meet their goals is another way to build a more memorable reputation. This could be introducing two contacts, offering feedback on a project at no cost, or mentoring someone who needs it.
8. Be Consistent
People remember the personal brands they encounter often, so make a point of being as consistent as possible. This is particularly true when it comes to your marketing efforts. If you start a new social media page, create a content calendar to ensure you’re posting regularly. Started collecting emails with promises of a weekly newsletter? Make sure you’re sending one out every week.
9. Use Negative Feedback to Your Advantage
There is no negative feedback, only the opportunity to do better. If you receive negative feedback, use it to your advantage. If one or several people point out something you could do better, don’t take it as a personal attack. Instead, use it to boost your personal brand.
10.Learn from Professionals You Admire
Create a list of the professionals you admire and make a note of the things they do. What stands out about them and how can you incorporate those learnings into your personal brand?
With these tips in mind, you can start the new year with a powerful personal brand and a much stronger reputation.
