This years Senior Empowerment Collective members are pumped for some exciting opportunities. The first two girls who signed up over this Spring were Shakira and Gabrielle. Most people are thinking…class of 2019 seniors signing up for portraits in the summer of 2018??! but they’re juniors? So here is the scoop on why. If you are graduating in class of 2019, your senior portraits are actually due to the yearbook by November of 2019!!! Which comes up QUICKLY! Because of our lovely Upstate, NY weather, there is a small window of time during the year where one can get photographs outdoors and not be either freezing cold or in ankle deep in mud. 😉 (May-October is your window!!) So why book early? I have LIMITED availability. <3 While I’d LOVE to be able to service all of the Finger Lakes single handedly, its not possible for me to do as one lady show. Most of my clients book me one to two months in advance. I’m currently booked solid through June and into July. The moral of this part of the story is~ BOOK EARLY if you want to have awesome senior portraits and actually wear a nice dress and not freeze your butt off. hehe…
Shakira and Gabrielle also signed up early because they wanted to take advantage of being a part of the larger Model Network National team of senior models that my studio is affiliated with. The deadline to be a part of the National team and participate in epic destination shoots all over the country was in May. So If you were hoping to be a part of that opportunity…the time has passed. but DON’T FRET!! There is still room for 3-5 more class of #2019 seniors in this year’s Senior Empowerment Collective. <3 Here is the LINK if you’re interned in applying. There are lots of perks that being a part of the collective will provide, so check it out.
But I digress from the title of this post which was “Senior Empowerment Collective Headshot Session” For those girls who did sign up, they had their headshot session done a couple of weeks back and I wanted to share some of those photos and talk about the fun time we had together.
The Model Network National requests that I provide them with a headshot and a full body shot to submit to the National Senior Model Team. Shakira, Gabrielle and I decided to meet in downtown Ithaca on the Commons and walk around and just do some simple natural light photographs that would showcase their personalities.
We started on the commons and decided to head over to the brick wall along the waterway. Brick walls are always classic, and do wonderful things like accentuate skin tones and absorb any strong shadows in the mid afternoon sun.
We then walked around the library, captured a few more images.
The girls and I chatted about their plans for their senior year, and what their interests were. I learned that they’re both really into art, and murals, and so with the abundance of murals around Ithaca, we found some sweet ones to use as backdrops.
Right around the time we found this spot, Shakira realized that she had accidentally left her wallet behind at the waterway wall. We walked back over there and were not able to find it. NOT GOOD! 🙁 We decided after some more backtracking that we’d have to just let it go and pray someone would find it and return it. We finished up the portrait session in a nearby parking garage and then called it quits for the afternoon.
In a simple walk around the commons we are able to capture a large array of different poses and images which I felt really happy with. I submitted my favorites to Model Network and created an online phone app gallery for the girls so they could share and favorite their images as well. The good news was that a few days later someone called Shakira to let her know they FOUND her wallet and safely returned it to her. 🙂 So all was well in the end! <3
