In the heart of bustling Boston, we embarked on a transformative visual odyssey with Laura Beck, a dedicated somatic therapist, determined to encapsulate the very essence of her being through the art of photography. The journey, however, began long before the click of the camera shutter—weeks of meticulous planning, intention setting, somatic preparation and prayer paved the way for this deeply personal and empowering experience

Prior to the shoot, we delved into the world of clothing and color, spending countless weeks curating a wardrobe that resonated with Laura’s spirit and the natural elements we aimed to embody. It was also essential that each piece was carefully chosen to reflect her authenticity, from the soft earth tones symbolizing grounding to the flowing fabrics representing the fluidity of her therapeutic approach. The wardrobe became not just attire, but an extension of Laura’s essence, enhancing the visual narrative we sought to convey through her new website.

Beyond the external preparations, there was also an internal journey—a battle with longstanding camera shyness and a deep-seated phobia of being fully seen that Laura had bravely confronted. In the weeks leading up to the shoot, we worked diligently to ensure she was somatically ready, nurturing her confidence and empowering her to embrace the camera with grace and courage. It was a process of self-discovery and acceptance, a journey as significant as any other element of our preparation.

On the day of the shoot, we began our session with a profound ritual, setting intentions and offering prayers to the four directions. This sacred act infused the atmosphere with purpose, connecting us with the elements and aligning our energies with the natural forces that surrounded us. It was a moment of grounding and mindfulness, anchoring us in the present and infusing our work with spiritual resonance.

Our day unfolded organically, capturing moments of vulnerability and strength as Laura embraced her newfound confidence. Commencing at her tranquil home, we photographed her within her sanctuary—a home office suffused with warmth and healing energy. Bathed in the soft morning light, Laura’s authenticity shone through, her presence a testament to the power of self-acceptance.

Venturing outdoors, nature became our canvas. Amongst the ferns and wildflowers, we embodied the elements—air, water, fire, and earth—each photograph infused with the essence of these natural forces. The collaboration with Lynne Avallone, a masterful makeup artist, added an extra layer of magic, enhancing Laura’s natural beauty while preserving her authenticity. Lynne’s calming presence mirrored our intention, creating a harmonious environment where Laura could truly shine.

A pivotal moment came as we witnessed Laura in her element, conducting mini appointments with her Boston clients. These interactions, framed by the lens, revealed the depth of her empathy and the transformative power of her therapeutic touch. It was a testament to her dedication and a celebration of the profound connections she nurtures.

Our expedition continued to the DeCordova sculpture gardens, where art, nature and Laura all danced in harmony. Amidst sculptures and blooming tree, we captured metaphorical images representing Laura’s journey and her impact on her clients. Each photograph told a distinct story, reflecting the resilience and grace with which she navigates life.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow upon the lake, we concluded our day. Despite being in the midst of 90 degree heat and swarming mosquitoes, we captured a moment of sheer beauty—a picturesque sunset mirrored on the water’s surface. It was in this moment a living metaphor for Laura’s resilience and a testament to her ability to find beauty even in the midst of challenges, was witnessed.

This personal branding photoshoot was not just a visual celebration; it was a testament to the power of self-discovery, acceptance, and the unwavering spirit of a remarkable therapist. Through meticulous preparation, intention setting, and the collaborative efforts of Laura Beck, Lynne Avallone, myself and nature itself, this personal branding photoshoot became a sacred journey—a celebration of authenticity, healing, and the profound beauty that resides within us all.
